To the Editor: In the current information society, scientific and technological knowledge plays a main role [1], in which publication and dissemination of a scientific work have become the most effective way to transmit knowledge as a result of research [2]. Latin America, during the last years, has increased the scientific production as a result of several academic demands [3], generating scientific production studies that define the scientific resources produced during the research process.

Making an analysis of the Latin American scientific production, of Indian Journal of Pediatrics, will allow us to know the scientific community, the research situation in this area. The objective is to show a descriptive and retrospective analysis. In addition, 1339 research articles published in The Indian Journal of Pediatrics were analyzed between 2010 and 2018. Any type of publication that does not have the IMRyD structure is excluded. The scope of this research is focused on the participation of authors affiliated with Latin American institutions.

It was found that only 1.1% (n = 15) of articles published in the studied period have at least one author affiliated with Latin American institutions. Of 1130 authors, 5.0% represents the authors affiliated with Latin American institutions. Regarding the contribution per country, it is observed that Brazil has the largest number of authors (n = 40), followed by Mexico (n = 15) and Jamaica (n = 2).

Indian Journal of Pediatrics pays great attention to the dissemination and progress of knowledge in the Pediatrics field, highlighting the great opening worldwide. However, the Latin American authors and production participation remains minimal. The results can be explained by the investment gaps and economic inequality between the different countries. In addition, the small amount of scientific production can be reflected through the small number of researchers in this health field [4]. Dissemination of knowledge should continue to be encouraged, and the result of the research works published in scientific journals and the participation in academic events generating new routes of Latin American production should be made visible.
