In vitro cultivation of Trypanosoma congolense bloodstream forms: State of the art and advances
2021, Veterinary ParasitologyCitation Excerpt :Animal African Trypanosomosis (AAT or Nagana) is a severe vector-borne disease caused by protozoan parasites belonging to the Trypanosomatidae family and usually cyclically transmitted by blood-sucking tsetse flies (Authié et al., 1999).
Mini-review on CRISPR-Cas9 and its potential applications to help controlling neglected tropical diseases caused by Trypanosomatidae
2018, Infection, Genetics and EvolutionCitation Excerpt :Trypanosoma spp. and Leishmania spp. are protozoan parasites of the Trypanosomatidae family (order Kinetoplastida). Some species in these genera are responsible for diseases in humans and animals: Human and Animal African Trypanosomoses (sleeping sickness and Nagana, respectively) (Authié et al., 1999), American Trypanosomiasis (Chagas disease), and Leishmanioses. All are vector-borne diseases labelled as “neglected” by WHO (http://www.who.int/neglected_diseases/diseases/en/) (Alvar et al., 2012; Aksoy et al., 2017; Roger et al., 2017).
