  • qnrVC occurs in different genetic contexts in Klebsiella and Enterobacter strains isolated from Brazilian coastal waters

2022, Journal of Global Antimicrobial Resistance
    Citation Excerpt :

Further studies demonstrated their occurrence in mobile genetic elements (MGEs) in different bacteria, revealing they were transferable [2,5]. However, in contrast to other widespread qnr families, such as qnrA, qnrB and qnrS [2,3], qnrVC reports are still primarily associated with Vibrio spp. in conserved MGEs, mainly class 1 integrons [4,5,6]. From a one-health perspective, contamination of aquatic environments by anthropogenic actions opens the opportunity for antimicrobial resistance genes (ARGs) dissemination in different spheres, thus contributing to their amplification in these sites and possible spread into the community.
