2020, Neurobiology of Learning and MemoryCitation Excerpt :Dopaminergic projections innervate mPFC neurons (Goldman-Rakic, Leranth, Williams, Mons, & Geffard, 1989; Carr & Sesack, 1996). Moreover, pyramidal neurons and GABAergic interneurons contain D1 and D2 dopamine receptors, which suggests that mPFC neuronal properties are modulated during the development of cocaine addiction (Le Moine & Gaspar, 1998; Xu & Yao, 2010). Cocaine exposure affects the intrinsic excitability of mPFC neurons.
