ABSTRACT

The present study focuses on distribution of sediment transport along migrating dunes under non-equilibrium flow conditions. To this end, using ACVP (Acoustic Concentration and Velocity Profiler), we have obtained simultaneous, co-located, high temporal-spatial resolution measurements of the multi-component flow velocity and sediment concentration above dunes. In contrast to previous measurements of flow and sediment dynamics above dunes which are mostly carried out with more than one instrument, we are now able to address sediment fluxes directly for flow scales smaller than the separation distance between different instruments. In this paper, preliminary results are presented of flow velocities, sediment concentrations, sediment fluxes and sediment transport distribution along dune profiles. We show that sediment transport distribution in this case does not completely follows the dune shape as is the case for sediment transport distribution along dunes under equilibrium flow conditions.
