Abstract

BAYMIX is a feed premix formulation of coumaphos (O,O-Diethyl 0-(3-chloro-4-methyl-2-oxo-(2 H) -1-benzopyran-7-yl) phosphorothioate). The insecticidal properties of coumaphos are well established. Sherman (1960) and Ross (1960) reported on the use of coumaphos in the ration of chickens for the control of fly larvae. Quigley (1963) later reported coumaphos was effected as a larvicide for fecal breeding flies when fed in the total ration at concentrations as low as 5 p.p.m. of the total ration. DuBois (1959) found the oral LD50 of coumaphos to be 10 to 40 mg./kg. depending on the formulation and the carried used to conduct the study.

MATERIALS AND METHODS

The present study encompassed a feeding period of four weeks. The hens were housed in commercial laying cages and three hens were maintained in one cage. Four banks of cages were assigned to the test. Each bank of cages contained 96 Leghorn chickens which were 23 weeks . . .
