Abstract: The problem of medical waste management is an issue that concerns not only experts since the amount of waste has a stable tendency to intensive growth. The research aims to study the status of medical waste management and analyze the approaches to its classification, taking into account the specific features of its formation and possible disposal. The article defines theoretical approaches to the analysis of the “medical waste” category and identifies the main directions of research in the field of medical waste management. Based on the analysis of scientific literature and an expert survey, the authors analyze the problems associated with the disposal of medical waste and the possible approaches to their solution. The authors propose a classification of medical waste and operations performed with it in health care centers.
Keywords: Medical waste, waste management, disposal, pharmaceutical waste, health care center.
