Coronavirus and Its Persistence in Water for Human and Residual Consumption: A Background Check

Abstract: Coronaviruses (CoV) are a large family of viruses that cause a spectrum of illnesses ranging from the common cold to more serious illnesses such as Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS-CoV) and Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS-CoV). This work was based on the electronic search of the available literature using the PubMed, Scopus and Web Science Core Collection electronic databases. There is sufficient evidence to ensure that temperature is an important factor that affects the survival of CoV in water, we are certain that this virus has limited environmental stability and high sensitivity to oxidants such as chlorine, which is normally used in water purification. For human consumption. There is no evidence of transmission of CoV through residual contaminated water from population use. A solid basis must be established for risk analysis in water for human consumption, in accordance with water use safety approaches, during the COVID-19 pandemic generated by SARS-CoV2.
