Tuesday, 17 June 2008, 8.30 a.m. 12.30 p.m.
Offices of the European Union
Charlemagne Building (See Directions & Map)
170, reu de la Loi
BE-1049 Brussels, Belgium
Hosted by the Office of Publications of the European Union (OPOCE)
Registration Close Date: 31 May 2008
Each summer the International DOI Foundation holds a meeting for its member organisations and external participants; in recent years these have developed into thematic meetings. This year's main theme will be resource access for the digital world: the use of identifier systems, especially the DOI® System and Handle System®, in libraries and related areas, to provide persistence, support description and social infrastructure through management across open networks. The meeting is open to all interested parties; there is no cost to attend, but pre-registration is required.
During the afternoon, CNRI will sponsor a Handle System Workshop at the same location. This is a follow-on to the successful workshop held at AAAS in Washington, DC last year, which was also co-located with the annual IDF meeting. The workshop, open to the public, will address changes in the Handle System over the last year and will highlight new projects and innovative uses of the technology. There is no cost to attend, but pre-registration is required. The current agenda is appended below. Lunch will be provided for attendees of either meeting. A Registration Form follows the agendas below.
The IDF Corporate meeting and IDF Board meeting will be held on Wednesday, 18 June 2008. [Open to Members of the IDF only. Members will be advised when pre-registration is available.]
For attendees needing accommodations the EU has provided a list of hotels in both the city center and the area of the European Institutions.
For security reasons, OPOCE will email each attendee an official invitation that must be printed and brought to the meeting. A photo ID will be required at the door. OPOCE will be requesting passport/identity numbers and dates of birth from each individual, in advance of the meeting, in order to prepare a list of attendees as required by the EU. No substitutions will be permitted.
