[Discuss-DOI] metadata paper #2 version 3: Abbreviation
Here are two pseudo-RDF fragments that express the statement:
"The American Physical Society is the Publisher of Physical Review Letters"
In Dublin Core:
<rdf:Description about="[URI for Physical Review Letters]">
<dc:Publisher>The American Physical Society</dc:Publisher>
</rdf:Description>
In Proposed DOICore:
<rdf:Description about="[URI for Physical Review Letters]">
<doi:Event id="prlpub">
<doi:EventType value="Dissemination"/>
<doi:AgentRole value="Publisher"/>
<doi:Agent>The American Physical Society</doi:Agent>
</doi:Event>
</rdf:Description>
OK, let's assume for the sake of argument that DOI members have decided
that the advantages of DOICore are compelling to them. What will IDF need
to do to gain widespread adoption of the second, verbose declaration over
the first?
One suggestion: provide an abbreviated syntax for common "fields" such as
"Publisher". Keep the more verbose data model, but allow shorthand
abbreviations.
