[Ref-Links] The IDEAL use of DOI
=====
IDEAL - the online STM library - is a registered trademark of Harcourt, Inc.
=====
IDEAL(R) Alert - the public email service for tables of content from IDEAL - is
now using the DOI to link in to new articles. DOIs are resolved directly by
IDEAL rather than the global resolver (the proxy dx.doi.org). (DOIs for pre-1999
articles are currently sent by IDEAL to the global resolver although this is
transparent to the user - the only issue is 24x7 operation of the global
resolver.)
Current situation:
1. DOIs have been deposited for _all_ journal articles (85,000+ from over 200
titles) on IDEAL as well as for articles from Academic Press' major reference
works
2. DOIs are being deposited for the 3 publishers hosted on the IDEAL platform -
Academic Press, W B Saunders, Churchill-Livingstone
3. DOIs are being deposited in real time for all new journal articles (currently
set to a 20 min cycle but could be more frequent)
4. All links to journal articles from IDEAL Alert now use the DOI
5. Metdata in support of DOIs is being managed on the IDEAL Gateway and content
manifest/holdings files are being delivered in XML format
We now have complete DOI coverage of all our online journal content and are
ready to accept other 3rd parties linking in to IDEAL via the DOI. The IDEAL
platform is thus Killer App ready (or Killer App enabled, if you will :-).
A sample IDEAL Alert Table of Contents is appended.

# and can be resolved both locally on IDEAL and globally through
# the DOI system.
