[Ref-Links] S-Link-S Editor/Publisher alpha release

I'm pleased to announce the first alpha release of S-Link-S Editor/Publisher.

http://www.openly.com/SLinkS/Editor.html

S-Link-S Editor/Publisher is a java application that publishers can use to
author and publish metadata to facilitate e-journal hyperlinking using
S-Link-S. The metadata is saved using Resource Description Framework (RDF)
Syntax, which is a standard for metadata developed by the World-Wide-Web
Consortium (W3C). If your computer is connected to the internet, you will
use this application to publish your metadata into the S-Link-S
Hyperlinking system.

S-Link-S Editor/Publisher also incorporates a mini-application that you can
use to compose and test S-Link-S URL templates.

The present version is an alpha version, which means that it is being
released to interested parties to get feedback for improvement. To test the
publishing capabilities of the application, use the username and password
found in the readme file. Nothing will be done with files that are
submitted by this alpha version.

Together with S-Link-S Calculator, for which a second release is on the
way, and our upcoming S-Link-S Metadata Service, we're well on the way to
having a broadly-based inter-publisher hyperlinking infrastructure in
place. We're counting on your help to make this possibility a reality.

Download and Install Instructions: version 0.9

S-Link-S Editor 0.9 is available as alpha software for testing and
evaluation. The application uses any Java Virtual Machine running Java 1.1
or higher. To make installation easier, we have created three installer
applications: one for Windows, one for MacOS and one for Unix. After
reading the following tips for installation, download the appropriate
installer.

Installing onto Windows 95,98,NT

After downloading, there will be an executable file called "install.exe" on
your computer. To install, double click on this icon. The installer will
ask for two pieces of information: 1. which directory to install the
application into, and 2. which Java Virtual Machine to use. If you choose
not to install into the default C:\Program Files directory, we recommend
you create a blank directory to install into. Since the installer creates
up to 20 files and does not put them neatly into a folder in Windows. After
installation is complete, double click on the application icon called
"S-Link-S_Editor.exe" to launch.

Installing onto MacOS

After downloading, there will be a bin-hex file called "install.bin" on
your computer. Double clicking on it may NOT work. If not, launch an
expander program that can handle bin-hex files. Stuffit Expander is one
example. If you have that icon on your desktop, just drag our file onto it.
This process will create a new file called "install.bin.sit."
Double-clicking on this should automatically launch Stuffit-Expander and
you should soon see two new files called "install" and "install.bin.1"
Double click on the icon called "install" and the installation process will
begin. The installer will ask you for one piece of information: 1. which
folder to install the application into. After choosing where to install, a
folder called S-Link-S_Editor will be created with up to twenty files
inside. Double click on the Java application icon called "S-Link-S_Editor"
to launch.

Installing onto Unix

We have yet to test this installer or the application on a Unix system.
Alpha testers on Unix platforms would be greatly appreciated.

Installing onto Other

If the installers above don't work, check the instructions here:
