The Common Information System (CIS) is perhaps the most significant collaborative development to have come out of the CISAC network of societies. Inspite of the sometimes competitive nature of the rights organisations which CISAC represents, CIS has firmly united them to achieve a common objective. The Common Information System is regarded as a critical requirement if rights societies are to function effectively and protect the principle of collective rights administration in the digital age.
