CIS is a plan for standardising and communicating data in an efficient and integrated way. It is designed to replace the many duplicate sets of data managed independently by royalty collection societies and music publishers with their individual and unrelated numbering schemes.
To become efficient and integrated all parties need to be able to identify the same work by a single unique identification number no matter where in the digital world it is exploited.
