Transport of steroid hormones

  • Chapter
Plasma Protein Turnover

Abstract

In 1913 Oppenheimer1 observed that cardiac glucosides are less toxic to the isolated frog heart when serum is added to the drug solution. This phenomenon he explained by adsorption of the digitalis steroids by the colloidal components of the serum. This was probably the first study indicating a steroid—protein interaction.
