The Efficiency of Competition and Planning

  • Chapter
Planning and Market Relations

Part of the book series: International Economic Association Series ((IEA))

Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to make some comments on the merits of competition and planning for achieving efficiency in developed industrial economies. One issue will be competition versus non-competition (monopoly), a second will be competition versus planning. In fact, however, the two issues are closely interconnected.

I am grateful to Hans Soderstrom for research assistance and to a number of colleagues at the Stockholm School of Economics for comments on an earlier draft.
