Abstract
A program that uses the HELP system to screen laboratory data automatically for potentially life-threatening situations has been developed, implemented, and evaluated at LDS Hospital. The CLAS program uses decision logic to screen automatically laboratory data being stored to the patient database for the presence of life-threatening conditions. If such a condition is detected, a message is stored in a computerized file. The message is displayed the next time the HELP system is used to review the alerting patient’s laboratory data.
