Abstract

The flow of the air above the waves has been of considerable interest for a long time (e.g. Motzfeld 1937), for at least two reasons. The first is in connection with wave generation, and need not be detailed in this type of symposium. The second reason is: if the air flow is modulated by the wavy surface, the mean wind profile may be distorted. It would then not be possible any more to use common profile theory to deduce the stress at the sea surface from wind profile measurements.
