Abstract

The embryonic period proper, which occupies the first 8 postovulatory weeks (i.e., weeks since the last ovulation), is a time during which the organs and most of the named structures of the body make their first appearance. These include such disparate structures as the thenar and hypothenar muscles and branches of the intercostal nerves, digital vessels, and bronchopulmonary segments.
