Shear Strength Characteristics and Shear Creep Modeling of Low Density Rigid Polyurethane Foam

  • Chapter
Polymer Processing and Properties

Abstract

The use of rigid polyurethane plastics foam as core material in structural sandwich construction has become increasingly important in recent years. Especially light-weight sandwich panels consisting of a low density rigid foam core bonded between thin steel sheet faces have found wide application in many fields of building construction. For an efficient use of rigid polyurethane foam material in sandwich construction, it is essential to know its mechanical properties in full, particularly as regards the shear properties.
