Abstract
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) directs the National Marine Sanctuary Program (NMSP), through its Office of Ocean and Coastal Resources Management (OCRM). There are presently 13 national marine sanctuaries, most of which are known or believed to contain both submerged prehistoric archaeological remains and historic shipwrecks.
