Abstract

Sweden has recently made a major change in the public pension programme, the largest change since the introduction of the present earnings-related pension scheme in 1960. The final decision on the new pension programme was taken by the Parliament (Riksdag) in June 1998, albeit some details are not resolved yet. The new pension system will pay out the first pensions in the year 2001.
