Treatment of Recurrent Viral Infectious Diseases by Methisoprinol

  • Chapter
Immunomodulation

Abstract

Since the first reports of the antiviral activity of methisoprinol1,2,3 at least ten clinical trials have evaluated both its clinical efficacy and its lack of toxicity.4 There is also increasing interest in the immunomodulating activity of this drug.5–9 We report herein the results obtained in subjects affected by viral infections or diseases of probable viral etiology with a high frequency of recurrence and the effects of long-term treatment with methisoprinol.
