Abstract
Patients with infection caused by unusual or catalase-positive organisms such as Serratia marcescens should be evaluated for chronic granulomatous disease (CGD)
X-linked CGD caused by mutations in CYBB (gp91phox) is the most common form
Dihydrorhodamine test assay has replaced the NBT test as first choice for establishing a diagnosis of CGD
CGD is also a disorder of auto-inflammation, associated with inflammatory bowel disease and lung granuloma
Antibiotic prophylaxis is essential for all CGD patients
Stem cell transplant is curative and should be offered to patients with severe phenotype
