Introduction

Climate change can impact companies’ operations and access to resources ranging from energy to raw materials and labor. It can affect their ability to deliver goods and services according to contracts or where there is a market. The systems-orientation to sustainability leads to new expectations on companies to do their part for the holistic sustainability of environment, societies, and the economy. Governmental commitments and social expectations lead to new requirements on energy use and sources as well as new economic opportunities through innovation and investment. Moreover, the ideal of an equitable, fair, and just transition challenges companies to ensure they reduce potential harmful societal impacts resulting from involvement in climate change mitigation and adaptation.
