Campaigning on Facebook in the 2019 European Parliament Election

Abstract

The chapters in this book are built on a joint methodical foundation. The Facebook posts that were published by the parties under investigation during the investigation period were stored in a central database in order to organise them centrally for the further content analysis. Against this background, this chapter describes an approach for a computer-enhanced content analysis, where the material is organised centrally and provided to the coders via a coding platform whereby it is possible that the manual coding can be conducted in an identical format by all participating teams. The chapter describes the overall sampling strategy, the data collection and the central coded categories in the project and discusses methodical peculiarities in the context of the central data management.
