About this book

This book presents isothermal and non-isothermal multiphase flows with and without phase change or chemical reactions. Six main axes of multiphase flow are covered in a strategic order: Multiphase Flow in Industry, Multiphase Flow Measurement and Instrumentation, Multiphase Flow With Phase Change & Chemical Reactions, Multiphase Flow Modeling, Experimental Multiphase Flow, and Wet and Dry Particulate Systems. Each part is opened by mini-reviews written by internationally prominent researchers from the academy and industry. The content is of interest to researchers and engineers working in mining, oil and gas, power, nuclear, chemical process, space, food, biomedical, micro and nanotechnology, and other industries.

About the editors

Rogério Ramos is Full Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the Universidade Federal  do  Espirito Santo (UFES), Brazil. He has been leading research in flow measurement and instrumentation applied to the oil and gas industry since 2003. Prof. Ramos is Head of the Research Group on Flows and Measurements of Oil and Gas (NEMOG) (2016), linked to the Graduate Program in Mechanical Engineering at UFES. He received his B.Sc.(Eng) (1988) from UFES and his M.Sc.(Eng) (1993) and doctoral degree (1999) from the Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro. He has developed significant projects with the public academy, financed by the industry with private resources. He is an Active Member of the Brazilian Society of Mechanical Engineering (ABCM).

Humberto Belich Junior is a Theoretical Physicist at the Department of Physics at the Universidade Federal do Espírito Santo (UFES) and Research Leader of the Postgraduation Research Program in Mechanical Engineering at UFES. He has authored more than one hundred scientific papers in Physical Reviews and Letters' most prestigious journals. He works on techniques for solving nonlinear differential equations in different contexts, fluid mechanics and multiphase models. He holds a B.Sc. (Phy) from the Universidade de  Sao Paulo (1992) and an M.Sc. (Phy)(1997) and D.Sc. (Phy)(2003) for the Brazilian Center for Research in Physics-CBPF.

Marcio F Martins is Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering and Collaborator's Chair in the Department of Environmental Engineering at Universidade Federal do Espírito Santo, Brazil. He has been leading research into reactive multiphase processes in thermal systems for environmentally beneficial applications since 2009. He also works with the development of pyrolysis and combustion technologies for sludge treatment, pollutant destruction, sanitation, materials recycling, and energy recovery. Professor Martins holds a B.Sc.(Eng) (2002) and M.Sc.(Eng) (2005) from the Universidade Federal do Para (Amazon Rainforest, Brazil), and a doctoral degree (2008) from the University of Toulouse, France. He regularly provides expert consulting to the industry. Professor Martins has been recognized with some top industrial awards in Brazil, such as Petrobras Prize of Technology, and National Prize of Innovation SEBRAE/CNI for outstanding contributions to academia and industrial applications.
