Abstract
Ground treatment has been widely used to mitigate earthquake damages at poor soil sites. Following the 1999 Kocaeli Earthquake in Turkey (MW=7.4), we studied the performance of industrial and commercial sites along Izmit Bay that had been improved. Soil conditions along the Bay consist of soft, weak soils that increase damage potential. Four sites presented here showed that soil treatment was effective in mitigating damage.
