Abstract
Theoretical and experimental study of optical implementations of various new nonspreading wave-packet solutions to linear wave equations is overviewed. Startling superluminal group velocity of pulsed Bessel beams and so-called X-type waves is discussed and mathematically described in terms of electromagnetic field of a tachyonic source.
