Zusammenfassung
Mit der Entdeckung des Insulins und der Herstellung hochgereinigter und kristalliner Insulinpräparate, deren Wirkungsdauer durch die verschiedenen Zusätze nahezu beliebig zu variieren ist, schien das Problem der Berhandlung des menschlichen Diabetes mellitus zunächst gelöst. Dennoch ist auch seitdem nach oral applizierbaren blutzuckersenkenden Substanzen gesucht worden, um den Diabetiker von der Belästigung durch die tägliche Insulininjektion zu befreien.
