Bill McKibben ist ein bekannter amerikanischer Klimaaktivist. Lange Zeit arbeitete er als Dozent am Middlebury College in Vermont. Als Student an der Harvard University war er Chefredakteur der Studentenzeitung „Harvard Crimson“. Sein erstes Buch „The End of Nature“ (1989), aus dem Ausschnitte im Magazin „The New Yorker“ veröffentlicht wurden, machte ihn schlagartig zu einem bekannten Autor für Umweltthemen.
