Part of the book series: Acta Neurochirurgica ((STEREOTACTIC,volume 33))

Summary

The reliability of the informations provided by stereotactic biopsy of expanding cerebral lesions was analyzed. Out of 68 patients, studied with stereotactic biopsy, 14 were subsequently submitted to surgery and 5 to autopsy. In 18 cases there was a perfect correspondence between the diagnosis based on biopsy and that based on surgery or autopsy. In one case the tumor was missed at biopsy. The reliability of stereotactic biopsy seems related to the modality of its planning and execution and to the experience of the neuropathologist.
