Geneesmiddelen in de tandheelkundige praktijk

Inleiding

Welk geneesmiddel bij welke aandoening in en rond de mond te gebruiken is een niet altijd even eenvoudig te beantwoorden vraag. Zoals in een recent artikel in het Geneesmiddelenbulletin is beschreven, is het bewijs van de effectiviteit van een groot aantal binnen de tandheelkunde gebruikte geneesmiddelen beperkt of (nog) niet op juiste wetenschappelijke gronden vastgesteld (Vissink et al., 2012b). Daarnaast is helaas een aantal (werkzame) geneesmiddelen (tijdelijk) van de markt genomen, zoals fluocinonidegel voor orale manifestaties van lichen planus en amfotericine B-zuigtabletten voor orale candidiasis (Horikx et al., 2011). Voor andere aandoeningen zijn juist nieuwe geneesmiddelen beschikbaar gekomen c.q. blijken bestaande geneesmiddelen ook effectief te zijn, zoals clonazepam bij bepaalde vormen van mondbranden en botulinetoxine A-injecties in de speekselklieren bij bepaalde vormen van kwijlen .
