Abstract

The Strategic Plan for Biodiversity 2011–2020 was adopted at the tenth meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the in 2010. Its purpose is to promote effective implementation of action on biodiversity by all parties and stakeholders as well as providing a flexible framework for the establishment of national and regional biodiversity-related targets. It is also recognized as the overarching flexible framework relevant to the objectives of all the biodiversity-related conventions. The Convention on Wetlands (Ramsar), for example, recognizes the important contribution of its strategic plan toward the achievement of the Strategic Plan for Biodiversity 2011–2020.
