Abstract

Several approximate solutions are available in the literature for plates of various geometries undergoing large amplitude flexural vibrations. In many cases the results are based on a single-mode approximation. Since closed-form solutions do not exist for many of these nonlinear problems, it is very difficult to evaluate the accuracy of any approximate solution. In this paper a new approach is used to check the accuracy and therefore improve the results in the nonlinear regime. Self-generating functions of zero, first and second order are used to investigate the effects of amplitude, geometry and material constants on the dynamic behavior of rectangular composite plates.
