Abstract
Pre-eclampsia/eclainpsia is a disorder of the second half of human pregnancy, and a principal cause of both maternal and perinatal mortality and morbidity. Its cause is unknown and its investigation is constrained by the lack of any equivalent disorder in other mammalian species. The diagnosis of pre-eclampsia varies between different investigators — it may be a syndrome with several different aetiologies rather than a single disease entity.
