Abstract

This chapter examines the components of Kazakhstan’s health system with a focus on primary healthcare and the hospital system, which constitute the foundation of any health system. Improvements in other aspects of the health system (such as dental care, pharmaceutical care, palliative care, etc.) are also discussed. Investments in primary healthcare reduce the need for costlier inpatient care in the future. The chapter discusses the various entities responsible for primary healthcare, categories of primary healthcare facilities, as well as categories of hospital facilities in Kazakhstan.
