Summary
The potential of hydroxyalkyl methacrylate gel as a support for yeast cell immobilization by covalent attachment was investigated with respect to the length of spacer used and the manner of its activation. Saccharomyces paradoxus cells were immobilized successfully onto glutaraldehyde activated glycyl-, β-alanyl-and ε-aminocaproyl-derivatives of the above mentioned gel modified with hexamethylenediamine. Results suggest that covalent attachment via spacer is strongly influenced by cell surface characteristics.
