Summary

A simple but flexible arterial perfusion system is described in which the perfusate recirculates through the arterial segment in a pulsatile fashion. The apparatus is designed so that most physical parameters such as temperature, transmural concentration gradients, pulse, systolic and diastolic pressures can be varied. The system lends itself particularly well for studies on the effects of these physical factors on such physiologic questions as the influx of lipoproteins into the arterial wall.
