Abstract

Hot pressed, optically transparent ferroelectric ceramics of lanthanum modified lead zirconate titanate (PLZT) have been locally reduced and metallized by means of ultraviolet Kr+ laser irradiation in a hydrogen atmosphere. The technique allows maskless single-step metallic patterning of the material.
