Abstract
Heterogeneity of the somatic membrane of subesophageal ganglionic neurons ofHelix lucorum was studied by extracellular electrical stimulation. A sinusoidal current was applied through electrodes movable relative to the preparation. The threshold of action potential generation was shown to depend on the direction of the extracellular current, so that the presence of functional heterogeneity could be demonstrated in the cell soma.
