Summary
An analytical procedure is described for determining very small amounts of lead in plant material. Its accuracy is suitable for the study of the lead contamination due to industries emitting lead at various distances.
Since the parts of plants that lie beneath the surface also take up very small amounts of lead from the soil in contaminated regions, and since these amounts are above the normal values, the method is to be recommended especially in range I (0.20 to 8.00μg Pb/10 ml). This procedure is also suited to the quantitative study of the lead uptake of various plant species from the soil, because highly contaminated but washed and peeled tuberous growths seldom exceed a content of 5.0μg Pb/g dry mass.
