Summary

This paper is concerned with straightforward solution of the problem of torsional oscillations set up in an elastic stratum, one face of which is rigidly secured, by a rigid circular disk which is attached to the free surface of the material and which performs simple harmonic oscillations about its axis. The problem has been solved after reducing it to the solution of a Fredholm Integral Equation of the second kind.
