On the electronic density of states of the transition metals

V. The alloy system Ni-Rh

Abstract

XIS measurements of the alloy system Ni-Rh are reported. The measured isochromats of the alloys could be described with a special density of states model, the superposition model. Good agreement between the measured isochromats and the theoretical isochromats inferred from the elemental metals could be obtained by an electron charge transfer from the atomic cells of Ni to the atomic cells of Rh. Furthermore the application of this model allows a statement concerning the weighting and localizing properties of the considered spectroscopic method. The elementary process of the XIS turns out to be strongly localized. This is supported by the ratio of the measured X-ray intensities of the pure metals which is about the same for free atoms. A lack of structure in the measured isochromats occurs which should not be explicable by a poor resolution of the apparatus but instead by an energy smearing caused by the short duration of the pertaining elementary process.
