Abstract
We calculate the time dependent wave function and energy spectrum resulting from the passage of a monoenergetic (plane wave) neutron beam through a chopper consisting of a slit with time dependent width. Experimental possibilities of observing the predicted effects are discussed. A new type of inelastic scattering spectrometer involving the use of frame overlap in a time of flight instrument is proposed.
