Abstract
A general definition for the change of the coherence of photon fields is introduced. It is based on the comparison of the deviations from optimally fitted fully coherent states which are shown by the initial and final states. The disturbance of the coherence of a fully coherent state caused by forward scattering is treated as an example and compared with the results for the disturbance of coherence of second order obtained in a previous investigation.
