Durante i movimenti rapidi oculari caratteristici della fase desincronizzata di sonno si osserva una depressione fasica della risposta lemniscale alla stimolazione di fibre cutanée. Questa modulazione ipnica della risposta lemniscale è dovuta a meccanismi di inibizione presinaptica e postsinaptica.
