Summary
Various conditions of deformation of polymer melts are studied on a rotational elastoviscometer at different constant speeds of rotation of one of the measuring surfaces. It is shown that raising the speed causes periodic slippage along the solid surface, ending in a rupture in the melt or complete tearoff of the deforming melt from the wall. Unstable flow of the polymer in a capillary (elastic turbulence accompanied by periodic slippage) is compared with the conditions of unstable flow studied in the elastoviscometer. The generalized deformation characteristics of plastic disperse systems and of polymer melts is discussed.
