Sommario
Summary
The aim of the present study is to design the shape of the UF 6 extraction scoop for the ultracentrifuges so as to minimize the restraining moment. The local reduction of the fluid velocity is evaluated by considering the equilibrium between the accelerating and restraining forces acting on the fluid. By defining the function to be minimized and the links to be considered for the variables of the problem, the minimum is obtained by means of a typical variational problem. Some optimization examples, at various Mach numbers, and some comparisons with non optimal shape scoops are then shown.
