On the identity and systematic position of the genusDirphys [Hym.: Aphelinidae]

Abstract

Types have been examined of the aphelinid genusDirphys Howard (Type species,Mesidia mexicana Howard). It is found to be closely related toEncarsia Förster and related coccophagine genera. Hence its earlier placement in the subfamilyAphelininae sensu De Santis orAphytinae Jasnosh is considered untenable and, consequently, it is transferred to subfamilyCoccophaginae sensu De Santis.

D'après l'examen des types du genre d'aphelinide,Dirphys Howard, dont l'espèce type estMesidia mexicana Howard, il apparaît que ce genre est étroitement apparenté au genreEncarsia Förster et aux genres voisins de coccophagines. De ce fait sa position dans la sous famille desAphelininae au sens deDe Santis ou desAphytinae Jasnosh n'est pas valable et il est transféré dans la sous famille desCoccophaginae au sens deDe Santis.
